Please see the message below regarding the Money Follows the Person program.  If you could take a few minutes to contact your senators on Thursday asking them to renew this program that would so helpful!  I know many feel that their voice is not really heard, but it DOES make a difference when you call and let them know how important these issues are to families and individuals. This new EMPOWER Care Act would renew Money Follow the Person for five years.

Imagine yourself in a wheelchair, trying to live independently as possible, yet you cannot use your own restroom because the doorway is too small, or perhaps you have not been able to wash your own clothes for weeks because you no longer can carry a load up and down stairs. Unless you personally have a disability or limited mobility it is very easy to take even the simplest of living spaces for granted.

Most people don’t give a thought to accessible doorways, roll in showers, even the placement of light switches and the type of door knobs present. All of which can be a huge obstacle to overcome for a person with a disabil...

Most phone calls we receive are from people who have never had never needed any type of in home care before and don't know what is out there.

From this initial conversation I have a quick talk of what I call "In-Home Care 101", or the basics. There is a very common misconception out there that Medicaid will pay for in home care. Medicare will pay for some things, but extended care is not one of them.

So here it is, a very simple and short explanation: In Home Care 101

First off, Medicare will pay for SKILLED NURSING only. You need a physician order to qualify for all skilled nursing/Medicare services.
